Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish Hires Executive Director

TERRYTOWN- Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish is pleased to announce the hiring of Esrom Pitre, Ph.D. as the new charter school’s executive director. Dr. Pitre previously worked as an associate professor at Southern University and A&M College and Xavier University of Louisiana, where he helped prepare principals for urban schools in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

“As a school leader, my mission is to inspire students to think, learn, achieve, and care. The Athlos model does all that through its Pillars of Performance,” said Pitre. “I feel honored to take on the role of executive director at Athlos Academy and look forward to being a part of the school’s success.”

Dr. Pitre has spent nearly 20 years in education, 10 years teaching in the classroom and 10 years as an administrator, including principal at Donaldsonville High School in the Ascension Parish School System. While at Donaldsonville, Dr. Pitre led the school from failing to a B school accountability rating and improved the graduation rate from 70 percent to 88 percent. In 2013, Dr. Pitre received national recognition for earning the Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) Ambassador Award. He has provided professional development to more than 50 schools throughout Louisiana and worked closely with the Southern University Laboratory School.

Dr. Pitre earned his bachelor’s degree and his master’s in education from Southern University and A & M College and his doctorate in educational leadership/human resource studies from Colorado State University.

Dr. Pitre and his wife, Dr. Twana Hilton-Pitre, have two sons and one daughter.

I am confident his leadership will produce student academic results and make this school a staple in the community.”

Athlos Academy provides a new and unique approach to teaching and learning in Jefferson Parish and the surrounding communities. Its mission is to provide high-quality educational opportunities for the whole child built on the three foundational pillars: Prepared Mind, Healthy Body, and Performance Character. Students will participate in scientifically developed physical activity sessions each week, Performance Character is integrated into the culture of the school, and high academic achievement is an expectation for all students.
