HERRIMAN- Athlos Academy of Utah is pleased to announce the hiring of Jeffrey Herr as the charter school’s new executive director. Herr previously served as head of school for Utah Connections Academy, an online school based in Woods Cross, Utah.
“I love the Athlos model and believe that it can fulfill the Jeffersonian ideal of strengthening our students and, consequently, our society,” Herr said. “I am very excited to be serving the children and families of Athlos Academy of Utah.”
Herr grew up near Chicago, Illinois. He earned his bachelor’s degree in European history from Weber State University and a master’s degree in education administration from the University of Utah. Prior to leading Utah Connections Academy, Herr was a senior regional director for K12, Inc. in the Middle East and head of school for Utah Virtual Academy. He has also taught in the Weber School District and served as an administrator at various schools in the Salt Lake City School District.
Herr and his wife, Debbie, have four adult children and five grandchildren. He enjoys traveling, hiking, bike riding, and running.

He believes in student leadership and cares for the student as a whole,” said Bethany Zeyer, Athlos Academy of Utah board chair. “We are excited to be working with Mr. Herr and feel that he will be a powerful influence for good at our school.”
Athlos Academy provides a new and unique approach to teaching and learning in the Herriman area. Its mission is to provide high quality educational opportunities for the whole child built on the three foundational pillars: Prepared Mind, Healthy Body, and Performance Character. Students participate in four scientifically developed physical activity sessions each week, performance character is integrated into the culture of the school, and high academic achievement is an expectation for all students.
