Athlos Academy of Utah Director Receives UAPCS Circle of Excellence Award

Esther Thompson, first-year director at Athlos Academy of Utah in Herriman, has been awarded the Rookie of the Year Circle of Excellence Award by the Utah Association of Public Charter Schools.

The Utah Association of Public Charter Schools’ Circle of Excellence Awards recognizes the outstanding contributions of those who work in charter schools making a difference by empowering the students they serve. On June 6, Thompson was presented the Rookie of the Year award at the UAPCS 11th Annual Charter School Conference.

“I want to say thank you to Athlos Academies and our school community for the opportunity to serve during the launching year of this incredible charter school,” Ms. Thompson said. “I am honored by this award and want to express my gratitude to the fantastic leadership team, our teachers, and all our school employees for taking this journey with me and making our school shine. With such a great team and strong community support, I can’t wait to see what the coming year holds!”

Thompson took on the role of director of Athlos Academy of Utah in its inaugural 2016-2017 school year. Her efforts and commitment to her student and staff are commended by her school community and beyond.

Thompson’s constant commitment to improving student learning and school excellence through innovative practices, communication, professional development, and parent and community engagement efforts sets her apart from other administrators. She has created, in a year-one school, the culture and success you would expect to see in very established schools.
