Boise Mayor David Bieter recognized Athlos Academies as an example of the confidence in Boise’s future during his State of the City speech Thursday afternoon. The mention came as a result of the organization’s recent purchase of the C.C. Anderson Building in downtown Boise, which has been vacant since 2010.
An Idaho company that provides services to charter schools has bought the old Macy’s building in Downtown Boise.
The building, at the corner of 10th and Main streets, had been owned by partners Brad Elg, Jeff Shneider and David Wali, who bought it for $1 million in 2011 intending to develop affordable housing there. The buyer is Boise’s Athlos Academies, founded in 2006 by partners Ryan Van Alfen and Jason Kotter.

The former Macy’s department store, located on 10th and Idaho streets, will be renovated and used to house the organization’s operations and host teacher training for school leaders and educators from across the country.
BOISE – Athlos Academies, an Idaho-based education service provider, assisted four Texas charter schools into ownership of their facilities by their local school board. The social venture organization has provided financing, land acquisition, design, and construction services to over 20 charter schools across the country. This funding solution saves scarce resources that can then be invested in classroom instruction.
The vacant Macy’s building in downtown Boise has sold to Athlos Academies, a Boise-based education service provider for charter schools. The sale for an undisclosed amount closed on Aug. 31 to NOB-8 LLC, a related entity to Athlos, said Athlos President David Jeppson. Athlos will be the building’s tenant.

As an Athletic Coordinator for Athlos Leadership Academy I have the pleasure of working with the Performance Coaches who administer the Athlos Athletic Curriculum on a daily basis, and I have seen first-hand how the Healthy Body pillar has made a difference in our school.

Principal Israel Rios said the 12 1/2-acre campus on Chandler Road campus has had a positive impact on the neighborhood and on the children who are lucky enough to gain enrollment there.
For most parents, teaching their children the “social graces” is an old school norm, a part of everyday parenting. “Social graces” is an old fashioned word. It was eventually replaced with the term “people skills” which has since been reinvented as social intelligence.
