Athlos Schools Celebrate Successful Student-Led Conferences
Two Athlos schools recently saw astounding successes during their first ever student-led conferences (SLCs). In October, both Athlos Academy of Utah and Athlos Academy of St. Cloud held their first school-wide SLCs in kindergarten through the sixth grade. At Athlos schools, SLCs take the place of traditional parent-teacher conferences.
Amy Dolan Discovers New Species of Insect
A shining star in the realm of everything curiosity, our very own middle school specialist, Amy Dolan, has been recognized for discovering a new species of insect — Pristiphora fructicola Smith and Dolan. The new discovery, a species of sawfly, was discovered by Dolan in the summer of 2015 while she was working on her master’s degree in entomology research project at Montana State University.
Flexible Classroom Seating Encourages Student Engagement
Abby McKimm’s fourth-grade-students were fidgety. During classroom instruction time, McKimm often noticed her students shifting in their seats, becoming antsy, and losing their focus and concentration. “I noticed students standing at their desks and frequently asking if they were allowed to work on the floor,” McKimm said.
