If our goal as educators is to help shape students into citizens who are active in contributing to society, not finding ways to create a school culture that includes the larger community is a mistake that needs to be addressed.

Crescent City Schools Notes for January 31, 2018

Construction is underway on Athlos Academy, which will open at 1001 Behrman Highway, Terrytown, in fall 2018. Ben Bourgeois, is chairman of the school's nonprofit board. The school, with about 90,000 square feet of space, will initially serve 900 students in grades K-6. Once fully enrolled, the school will serve 1,200 students in grades K-8. Athlos Academy of Jefferson Parish is pleased to announce the hiring of Esrom Pitre, Ph.D. as the new charter school’s executive director. Dr. Pitre previously worked as an associate professor at Southern University and A&M College and Xavier University of Louisiana, where he helped prepare principals for urban schools in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

Athlos Academy Finding New Ways to Build Social Intelligence

For National Bullying Prevention Month Athlos Academy is helping educate its students on how to take a stand against bullying. On Wednesday the school hosted local rapper Tyler Lydeen to share his music about bullying as part of their kick-off for social intelligence and what it means to be a upstander. At Athlos Academy a upstander is someone who sees or hears about someone being bullied and speaks up about it.
